📊 Poll: What’s Your Take on the CBC Education System?

The Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) was introduced to shift from rote learning to skill-based education, but opinions on its effectiveness vary. As a parent, what’s your view on CBC?

  • It’s a great system - It equips children with practical skills and encourages creativity.
  • It has potential, but needs improvement - Some aspects are good, but implementation challenges make it difficult.
  • It’s too demanding on parents - The workload and financial requirements are excessive.
  • It’s failing our children - The system is not well-structured and is making learning more difficult.
  • I’m undecided - I need more time or information to form a solid opinion.
  • Not for me - My children do not follow the CBC system.

I watched a video on YouTube in which one of the parents said that it has challenged her to go back to school because she realised that her education was insufficient. Could this be the silver lining of CBC?

The benchmarks are too low in my opinion. When schools decide to benchmark with the govt, they’re bound to disappoint parents. Govt is constantly late publishing books. We constantly find ourselves halfway through the semester before the books list is released.

I keep telling the story of testing whether my daughter could really swim after 2 years of taking swimming classes in CBC curriculum. Let’s just say that was the turning point for me.

It might be the fault of the school for not doing anything more than the bare minimum - because I’ve seen other schools supplement the curriculum with encyclopedias, much as they’re banned, at least your child isn’t impeded by the pace of govt
