Curiosity is an essential ingredient is learning. As parents, we know the world of a difference that exists between our success in a venture (work, business, hobbies) when we are naturally curious compared to when we are forced to carry out a task. Psychologists distinguish between intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. It is intrinsic motivation that ultimately shapes and guides children into excelling in whatever they put their hand to.
For example, I’ve found that one of our children has really blossomed by being praised for their initiative and excellence which has really spurred them on to exert themselves even more. Without any explicit instruction, they have time and time again pushed themselves past their frontiers of learning.
What are the steps that you have attempted to seed and develop curiosity in your child? Which ones have you had the most success with?
