Growing up, Michael had an obsession with flight simulator games. He spent hours learning how to take off, navigate turbulence, and execute smooth landings—all from the comfort of his computer desk. His parents, however, saw it differently. To them, video games were nothing more than distractions—a waste of time that could have been better spent on “real” studying.
Years later, and to everyone’s surprise, Michael became a pilot, and to everyone’s surprise, a significant part of his professional training involved flight simulators—just like the game he loved as a child. What was once dismissed as frivolous entertainment turned out to be a critical learning tool.
This raises an interesting question—what role do electronic games play in learning? Could video games be more than just entertainment? How can parents smartly integrate gaming into their children’s education rather than dismissing it outright? And what are some games that you’ve found to be useful learning tools? ![]()
